CoMIoT: Study and evaluation of emerging IoT solutions for Smart City and Smart Building applications.
Smart Cities are a growing global trend, as they make it possible to improve citizens’ quality of life, optimise resources and reduce costs. In this context, the Internet of Things (IoT) plays a key role, as it enables the interconnection ofobjects and devices via the internet, allowing real-time information to be obtained and city resources and services to be managed more efficiently.
Within this framework, the CoMIoT project was created, with the objective of studying and evaluating emerging IoT solutions for Smart Cities and Smart Buildings. CoMIoT seeks to enhance the functionalities of current proprietary solutions and rationalise the use of communications infrastructures. In this way, medium- to large-sized cities can avoid ending up with numerous communication devices for each Smart City solution expected to be incorporated in the short to medium term, such as lighting, waste collection, traffic signalling or gas and water supply.
CoMIoT analyses the different IoT technologies available on the market based on coverage availability, as well as the characteristics of the supply environment. This approach makes it possible to identify the most suitable solutions for each case, taking into account geographical location, building typology and population density.
In addition, CoMIoT also focuses on Smart Building solutions, as these share the same philosophy as Smart City solutions and use the same types of devices, such as sensors for environmental quality measurement, temperature, occupancy and light levels. In this sense, the aim is to use the same communication technologies to manage buildings more efficiently, reduce costs and improve people’s quality of life.
In summary, CoMIoT is a project aimed at improving the management of cities and buildings through the implementation of IoT solutions. In this way, it contributes to the creation of more efficient, sustainable and liveable cities and buildings for people.
