Early Warning and Human and Environmental Health Surveillance System, ONE-WATER – ONE-HEALTH

Early Warning System and Surveillance of Human and Environmental Health,

ONE-WATER – ONE-HEALTH.

Human and environmental health are closely interconnected and influence each other. Therefore, it is essential to adopt an integrated approach to water and health management, known as the One-Health concept. Within this context, the ONE-HEALTH GO Analytics project was created, with the aim of studying and implementing different methods for the determination of emerging contaminants, antimicrobial resistance genes, characterisation of bacterial populations, viruses and protozoa throughout the entire water cycle.

ONE-HEALTH GO Analytics focuses on the creation of an epidemiological surveillance tool designed to serve as an early warning system for health authorities. This digital platform will dynamically integrate and process large volumes of heterogeneous data from all individual detection systems. In this way, not only will the detection of parameters be identified, but emerging contaminants will also be geographically prioritised.

In other words, ONE-HEALTH GO Analytics will make it possible to detect and prevent the presence of contaminants in water, both for human consumption and for the environment, and will provide key information to support preventive and corrective measures. In addition, thanks to the digital platform, information will be processed more quickly and efficiently, enabling health authorities to act immediately.

The ONE-HEALTH GO Analytics project also considers the integrated water cycle, which refers to the complete process of water supply and treatment, from abstraction to final disposal. Therefore, the different processes and stages of the integrated water cycle will be analysed in order to determine the most relevant parameters to be taken into account in the surveillance of human and environmental health.

In summary, ONE-HEALTH GO Analytics is an ambitious project aimed at improving human and environmental health surveillance throughout the integrated water cycle. The implementation of an epidemiological surveillance tool will allow early detection of contaminants and faster, more efficient decision-making by health authorities. All of this is framed within the One-Health concept, which seeks to integrate water management and health to achieve a healthier and more sustainable world for everyone.
